UpFeed — Your data, explained clearly
We believe you have a right to know exactly what data we collect, how we use it, and how to control it. This policy is written in plain English — no legal tricks.

What Data We Collect
UpFeed collects the minimum data needed to operate the platform:
Account data: Your name, email address, username, and profile photo. Required to create an account.
Content you create: Posts, comments, messages, video uploads, AI-generated art, and community activity.
Location data: Only collected when you explicitly enable "Location Sharing" in Settings. You can delete this at any time.
Watch time: We track how long you watch videos to power Creator Tier memberships and improve recommendations. Tied to your account, not shared.
IP addresses: Logged for security purposes (detecting abuse, IP bans, fraud prevention). We do not sell or share IP addresses.
Device & browser info: Used for analytics and bug reporting only.
Engagement data: Likes, views, shares — used to improve recommendations and show creators their analytics.
How We Use Your Data
We use your data exclusively to operate and improve UpFeed:
Personalizing your feed with relevant content from creators you follow
Powering Creator Tier memberships using your watch time on specific creators
Displaying analytics to content creators about their audience (aggregated, not individual)
Detecting and preventing platform abuse, spam, and ban evasion
Sending notifications you've opted into (follows, messages, likes)
Improving the platform through aggregated usage analytics

Advertising & Your Data
UpFeed serves its own first-party advertisements. Here is exactly how this works:
First-party ads only: All ads on UpFeed are managed directly by UpFeed — we do not use Google Ads, Meta Ads, or any third-party ad network.
No data sharing for ads: Your personal data is never shared with any advertiser. Ads are categorized by content type, not individual user profiles.
No cross-site tracking: UpFeed does not track you across other websites or apps for advertising purposes.
Ads shown on UpFeed are always clearly labeled so you know what is an advertisement and what is organic content.
✅ UpFeed advertising is 100% first-party. No third-party trackers. No external ad companies.
IP Addresses & Security Logging
UpFeed logs IP addresses for security purposes:
Abuse prevention: IP addresses are used to detect and block spam, bot activity, and coordinated abuse
Ban enforcement: When a user is permanently banned, their IP may be added to a ban list to prevent evasion
Fraud detection: IP data helps identify suspicious login activity
Legal compliance: IP logs may be provided to law enforcement in response to valid legal process
IP logs are retained for 90 days and then automatically deleted. They are never sold or shared outside of legal requirements.
Biometric & Device Security
Biometric App Lock: Uses your device's native WebAuthn/biometric system. No fingerprint or face data is ever transmitted to UpFeed servers.
Face Verification: A one-time scan to confirm you are a real person. The image is processed and discarded — only a boolean flag is stored.
Session tokens: We use encrypted session tokens to keep you logged in. These expire after inactivity.
Creator Tiers & Watch Time Data
When you watch content on UpFeed, we track your watch time to power Creator Tier memberships:
Watch time is recorded per-creator and used only to calculate your tier status with that creator
Creators can see aggregate statistics but cannot see individual viewers' personal information
If you delete your account, all watch time records are permanently deleted
Data Sharing & Third Parties
UpFeed does not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. Period.
No third-party advertisers: UpFeed earns revenue through the marketplace fee and its own advertising — your data is never given to external parties for advertising.
Login API — no location or IP sharing: When you use "Login with UpFeed" on a third-party site, UpFeed shares only the profile fields you explicitly approve (e.g. name, email, avatar) and a private pseudonymous tracking ID. UpFeed never shares your location or IP address with third-party apps, ever. Each third-party app receives its own tracking ID instead of your real account identifier.
Infrastructure: Your data is stored on secure cloud infrastructure with strict data protection agreements.
Legal requests: We may disclose data if required by law — we will notify you unless legally prohibited
Business transfers: If UpFeed is acquired, this privacy policy and your rights transfer with it
Your Rights & Controls
You have full control over your data on UpFeed:
Access: View all your data via Settings → Privacy
Edit: Update your profile, location, and preferences at any time via Edit Profile
Delete: Delete your account permanently via Settings → Account → Delete Account. All your data is purged within 30 days.
Opt-out: Disable location sharing, analytics, or notifications individually in Settings
Data Retention
Account data: Retained while your account is active. Deleted within 30 days of account deletion request.
IP logs: Retained for 90 days then auto-deleted.
Messages: Stored until you or the other party deletes them.
Analytics events: Aggregated data retained for 1 year. Raw event data purged after 90 days.
Cookies & Local Storage
UpFeed uses local storage to remember your preferences (theme, layout) — this data never leaves your device
Session cookies are used to keep you logged in — these are essential and cannot be disabled
We do NOT use third-party tracking cookies or external analytics services
You can clear all local UpFeed data by logging out and clearing browser storage
